BRIDES TREE SAL for MAY

The Brides Tree SAL challenge for• May: Bird or Bird in a nest - happiness and/or joy, confidence in the shelter
I have chosen one NZ small native birds Yellow Breasted Tit. This tiny bird is found in the forrest on the South Island. The design is from a Maree Garstang leaflet " More NZ Birds and Flowers", I have had the chart for many years and although I have stitched it once before this time it is for me. Stitched on 35 count Permin linen with DMC Threads, I chose not to stitch the blue in the background.

WINTER

Now that the weather is colder the small birds are visiting my garden more often and from my chair near the fire I can watch the little wax eyes in the native green clematis that is growing up the veranda post, they flit between the clematis and the callicarpa bush beside it, enjoying the last of the tiny purple berries on that bush.

There is snow on the mountain and yes we all comment on the cold weather! however winter brings pleasure of its own like sitting by the fire enjoying the company of friends, stitching and sharing ideas together. resent visitors fron Coromandel meant we had several days doing just that and after they left I was quite inspired with new ideas.
