REPORTING BACK

Where have I been and what have I been stitching ? first up I did achieve some planned  stitching for IHSW, as shown here-

I like the way it is coming along although I do not enjoy stitching on such coarse linen however  I will hopefully not have to wait to long till I can enjoy stitching with no sight problems. I have a date all going well for Cataract surgery later in September. The blackwork pattern here will form the background with more stitching on top. will share the progress of this as I get on.

 Following Hermits weekend I worked on a hussif for Caitlin's birthday, her choice of colour would always be purple and I found the lovely rich cotton I used for the outside on my trip to Napier earlier in the year, The lining is a soft mauve silk, almost a grey mauve Annette had sent this to me and there was just enough, some help from Maree who did the quilting and then a very enjoyable time stitching lots of bullion stitch roses. Pink Roses and gold butterflies was the theme. look closely and you will see lots of tiny gold butterfly charms, Ann found these for me at the Trader's mall at conference.

The bottom pocket has an extra small pocket on the front to hold a small ruler and inside that pocket I out the pin keep and the covered tape measure.  the middle pocket has the scissor case and needle book on the outside of it. and the top one is a flap  that open with the thread holders there.

It was here birthday on Friday, how the years have gone by she is now 17 and the hussif was delivered to her in person so I could see her reaction when she opened her parcel  

A new month starts tomorrow and first up will be finished some more Gold butterflies to send away, the blackwork Heart and Stitcher's challenge this time is a needleroll ( the type that looks like a cracker) I have found a chart I like now to sort out fabric and threads so I can get started.

Yes it IHSW again, how quickly the month has gone by. It is time for me to pull out the Wool Gatherer and see how much stitching I can add over these couple of days. The sun is shining  right into the room onto my stitching corner.

 First I want to share with you news I received last night, a group of about 25 ladies today will be stitching my Little flowers ort box. Quite a thrill to know so many were interested. This piece was designed two years ago for my Stitching Friends group. One of the Stitching friends will be taking the class Lyn is an embroidery tutor and specialises in Wessex stitchery I have shown some of her work on my blog in the past.

 

This is the little folding orts box they are making, starting today with their fabric tacked up ready and then meeting again in three weeks to learn the construction. I will put a Here's How on my other blog

after the weekend so if you are interested in making one watch over there for the instructions.

 

Now it is time for me to be away and start stitching, reporting back after the weekend.

HOME AGAIN

 

I arrived home on Friday after a 8 hour bus trip and in time to register for IHSW, my project for the weekend was to start and stitch as much as possible of  the needle roll from With My needles  design- Miss Trenner's Needlework Academy. I have previously stitched  one of the box panels from this set  and made it into a lavender cushion for my sister.

This time I am stitching for my daughter Jan's birthday gift, and the needle roll was her choice, here is my progress after the weekend.

IHSW- REPORTING IN

 

Last weekend was International Hemet's Stitch Weekend and I did manage stitching on two pieces of embroidery, as one is still under wraps I will share that at a later date Meanwhile here is my progress on the piece I selected to be stitched on these weekends , Shepherds Bush the Wool Gatherer. But first the point at which I stopped stitching last month

 

 

 

And here is my progress for the weekend, I am getting use to stitching the soft colours relying very much on the DMC numbering  and have at this point only changed one colour to the next deeper shade. Had fun however buying beads, I an working on 40 count so that I can stitch in one thread of floss and needed smaller beads went off to my local shop ( small and limited stock) had the numbers of the ones I thought would be best thanks to Mill Hill colour charts on line but of course what I wanted was not there I had to get help from another customer to confirm what I had now selected was green as it is really difficult  working out between greens and blues. But I am thankful that is my only problem as it is a small one.

 

I am also counting down till I go across to Napier for a very exciting event. Ellen Chester from With my Needle is coming to New Zealand and teaching her wonderful design Fruits of the Vine and I am doing the workshop. I have not done any workshops for some years now and have always said it would need to be something very special to tempt me and this I think is extra special share more later in the month as I am staying with my sister then she is taking me on to Tauranga to stay with a very old girlfriend, old in the number of years we have known one another, we worked together in the same florist shop  for a year in 1954 and have remained friends ever since and yes she is also an embroiderer.

INTERNATIONAL HERMIT AND STITCH WEEKEND PLANS

Each day is a piece of embroidery

On one side are all the beautiful patterns of life

On the other side are all the tangles and knots

We choose each day which side of the embroidery to live on

 

..............and I am having a new beginning for International Hermit and Stitch Weekend, the first weekend for the year will be this coming weekend and I have decided to select one piece and stitch it on these weekends only, what will it be ? Finally decided to stitch the Wool Gatherer by Shepherds Bush I did start it some years ago but this time I will stitch it on my favourite 40 count permin linen using DMC  threads as given in the kit. Progress report at the end of the weekend.

I have just finished stitching all four of the little witches by Maja at  The Snowflower Diaries these are freebies and can be found here  they are delightful designs and I must admit the spring witch with the rabbit on her broomstick is my favourite one. I made them up into a cube to hold paper, which may go off with Rachel when she leaves for the new year at varsity, at present she is gathering uop all the things she will need for first year of flatting.

This is IHSW weekend and this time I am working on a mon ami pierre design, which I has started last year, it came to light again when moving things round ready for the builders to start. Yes at long, long last work has started on repairing the front room that was flooded at the begining of December last year, on removing the flooring it was discovered the original floor boards were under neath and they were still quite damp... so a little delay while that area drys out.  Back to my stitching plans for the weekend this pocket shown here is what I am working on.....

 and here is what stage I am at hopefully there will be lots of progress to show by the end of the weekend.

I am working on 40 count permin linen using 1 strand of Chameleon stranded hand dyed from The Cherry Tree in South Africa, the shade is Thatch a lovely blue/grey shade which I am quite fond of.
